After working for three seasons on the staff of his uncle John Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens, Jay joined his father at Michigan in 2015, initially functioning as the Wolverines’ tight ends and assistant special teams coach.
After two years at this level, Harbaugh became the club’s special teams and running backs coach in 2017.
In 2021, he moved on to become the tight ends and special teams coach at Michigan. In 2022, he continued to teach the special teams for the team and also assumed the role of safeties coach.
Serving under the Harbaughs, Michigan had an incredible run that included two Big Ten Conference championships, three straight berths in the College Football Playoffs, and this past season’s College Football Playoff National Championship. The Wolverines had not won a championship in 26 seasons.
Nevertheless, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, the Seattle Seahawks, led by new head coach Mike Macdonald, are reportedly considering the younger Harbaugh.
