The young striker has made a permanent move to League Two with the Robins

Former Leeds United forward Sean McGurk says he is ‘buzzing’ to have made the move to Swindon Town after getting his wish of first-team football.

The 20-year-old was not able to push into the first-team picture under Daniel Farke at Elland Road, with experienced players such as Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter ahead of him, and Joe Gelhardt and Matteo Joseph ready to step up. So when the deadline day move came to League Two Swindon, he jumped at the chance.

McGurk had some changes in the EFL Trophy for Leeds, but will now be part of the Swindon side looking to win promotion into League One, and was named on the bench for Saturday’s game at Newport County.

“It was late when I first heard about the interest,” McGurk said. “I spoke to some of the lads who I know from here and I’m buzzing to finally get it over the line.

“I think it’s got a good pathway, it’s a young team, there’s good opportunities and the coaches put the trust in the young players, I think that was a big push for me to come here and I can’t wait to get going.

“I think it’s up and downs, leaving Liverpool and going to Wigan and then back on a high going to Leeds. Football ‘s just ups and downs. I just can’t wait to get going here and meet all the lads.

“I’ve been wanting to play first team football now for a little bit of time and I finally have the chance so it’s down to me to prove what I can do and show people.

“I think this season from the very first game I’ve been enjoying it. I was playing with freedom and being myself. I think that brought the best out in me and hopefully I can continue that form coming in and just kick on and go from there.”
