When a Green Bay Packers fan applies for the position of defensive coordinator, team president Mark Murphy responds in an amazing way.
Joe Barry, the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, was fired at the end of the 2023 campaign.
The Packers management spent some time interviewing candidates in-depth to succeed Barry before hiring former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley last week.
Hafley will succeed Barry, who was sacked last week after three seasons as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator, the Packers confirmed on Wednesday night. Hafley spent four seasons at Boston College, going 22-26 overall. This past season, he finished 7-6 and defeated SMU in the Fenway Bowl.
In a statement sent by the university, Hafley said, “I loved my four years at Boston College.” “With the caliber of student-athletes we recruit, the facilities, and the support from the University and BC fans, this is an amazing place to coach.” In addition to my wife Gina and I missing the BC community and all of our newfound friends, I will miss the players who have given so much of themselves over the last four years.
Hafley, 44, is the most recent collegiate head coach to leave for an assistant position. Prior to him, Maurice Linguist left Buffalo, and Kane Wommack left South Alabama to work with newly hired Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer.
Along with opening up the coaching carousel again, his move leaves Boston College with the lone opening of any Football Bowl Subdivision program.
The most recent college head coach to depart for an assistant role is Hafley, 44. Kane Wommack left South Alabama to train with newly appointed Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, and Maurice Linguist left Buffalo before him.
His departure leaves Boston College with the only opening of any Football Bowl Subdivision program in addition to spinning the coaching wheel once more.
