Broncos take quarterback who’s drawing in the mock draft. Comparisons to Joe Burrow
The quarterback selected by the Denver Broncos in a recent mock draft has been compared to Cincinnati Bengals standout Joe Burrow.
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports selected Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy with the 12th overall choice in his most recent mock draft. Some executives believe he would be a more sought-after player if he played in a different offense, according to ESPN draft expert Matt Miller.
Every tool is in its proper place. Miller claimed on “The Matt Barrie Show” on Tuesday that they’re simply waiting to come out. “J.J. McCarthy would be Joe Burrow if he were on a team that threw the ball, according to a scout I spoke with a lot. The scouting community holds J.J. McCarthy in high regard. He’s a very good athlete, coachable, tough as nails, and has a tremendous arm. It’s a topic that comes up frequently.”
In 2019, Burrow’s final season at LSU, he passed for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns, capturing a national championship and the Heisman award. He led the Bengals to a Super Bowl LVI appearance and was selected to the Pro Bowl in his four seasons with the organization.
Though McCarthy’s stats are insignificant, he did lead the Wolverines to a national championship. He passed for 22 touchdowns but fell short of 3,000 passing yards.
Having wide receivers Justin Jefferson (Vikings) and Ja’Marr Chase (Bengals), who went on to become NFL stars, was advantageous to Burrow. McCarthy still needs to improve his game because the statistics seem to indicate that he is less skilled than Burrow was.
The Broncos need to select a quarterback in the draft, though. Russell Wilson will most likely be released during this summer. In two starts, backup Jarrett Stidham went 1-1 with a below-average 31 QBR.
McCarthy obviously has some potential that head coach Sean Payton cannot overlook. It is not completely unjustified if the Broncos decide to take a chance on him.
