NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year goes to Will Anderson Jr., a former Alabama football star.
WBRC BIRMINGHAM, AL – Will Anderson Jr., a former football player for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has been named the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year! Thursday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 2024 NFL Honors awards presentation, the prize was announced.
The third overall choice in the 2023 NFL Draft, Anderson was a member of the Alabama football team from 2020 to 2022. He was instrumental in helping the Texans win the AFC South and make the playoffs in his rookie season. With seven sacks and 45 total tackles (including 29 solo), Anderson concluded the season strong.
C.J. Stroud, Anderson’s teammate, was also recognized as the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Will Anderson Jr. created a name for himself in the NFL shortly after a remarkable career with the Crimson Tide.
On Thursday night, the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award went to the Houston Texans’ EDGE.
Since DeMeco Ryans accomplished so in 2006, Anderson is the only former Alabama player to win defensive rookie of the year.
Anderson concluded his debut season with 45 total tackles and seven sacks for the Texans. In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans picked him third overall; his teammate, CJ Stroud, who was taken second, took home the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
