Tottenham supporters may have been forgiven for their lack of enthusiasm when the Wolves forward was being linked to Spurs throughout the summer.
Hwang’s total over his first two seasons in England was just eight goals. This time around, though, he’s having a genuine coming-of-age campaign at Molineux.
In fact, with ten goals in the Premier League this season, the South Korean sensation is having the finest season of his career.
Recently, a data from Sky Sports shows that Hwang is superior to former Spurs player Harry Kane in terms of finishing.
On Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher and former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch examined the top finishers in the Premier League.
Players who have scored more than 12 goals since the beginning of the previous campaign are included in the list.
Taiwo Awoniyi had the best conversion rate throughout this time, having converted 28.6% of his opportunities.
With 13 nets and a 24.1% conversion rate, Hwang is ranked third on the list.
This puts him ahead of Kane, who has scored 30 goals and converted 23.1% of his shots.
Based on the statistics, Hwang has completed his opportunities more often than Kane since the season’s beginning.
But Kane is by far the better goal scorer—all you have to do is compare the number of goals each player has scored. That might have to do with how many opportunities Wolves give Hwang.
However, the numbers would suggest that Hwang is a competent finisher when given the chance.
This season, the £14 million player has shown promise under Gary O’Neil, so it would be interesting to see if Spurs decide to rekindle their interest in the 28-year-old.
Naturally, there have also been rumors that Ange Postecoglou’s club is trying to get Pedro Neto, his teammate. However, they will have fierce competition to sign the Portuguese sensation.
