The Detroit Lions may sign a star free agent from the Kansas City Chiefs in order to bolster their defense.
The Detroit Lions are looking to build on their first 10-win season from the previous year later in the season. However, in order for that to occur, the team will need to make a major offseason acquisition by bringing in a guy similar to Chris Jones from the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, have just won their third Super Bowl. The Lions, on the other hand, had a 24-7 lead at halftime but lost to the eventual NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers, after coming close to playing Kansas City.
All things considered, Detroit enjoyed an incredible season last year, winning the NFC North division with a 12-5 record. After the regular season, the squad matched with the 49ers and Dallas Cowboys for the best record in the NFL.
Although adding great role players might seem like the safest course of action, there is a case to be made for the Lions to pursue Jones and sign him away from Kansas City. Aaron Schatz provides an explanation of this reasoning in his piece for ESPN:
The Lions will undoubtedly play better on the field with Jones in the starting lineup. Keep an eye on the Chiefs star to see if, at the end of the offseason, he stays in Kansas City, if Detroit trades for him, or if he ends up with another team.
