Loredana Berte: Bjorn Borg preferred cocaine to me and we broke up when he brought two prostitutes with whips

Loredana Berte, an actress and singer who married tennis star Bjorn Borg in 1989 and 1993, has once again discussed the tennis icon’s struggles with cocaine.

Regarding Borg’s 1989 attempt at suicide, Berte said to Francesca Fagnani on Belve de Rai 2: “I never understood why he did it. Our breakup was partially caused by his cocaine addiction; at one point in our relationship, I couldn’t accept that he chose cocaine to me.”

The woman known as the ‘Sophia Loren of Italian rock’ commented on her 1992 break-up with the Swedish tennis player that “we were staying at a hotel in Palm Beach, he had had an exhibition match. When he returned to the hotel, he phoned and asked for two prostitutes: they came dressed in leather and with whips and he told me that we should go to another level with sex. I hit him and left, and when we returned to Milan I didn’t let him in the house. From that day on, it was over.”

Cocaine’s grip on Borg
Berte, who met Borg during a holiday in Ibiza in 1988, already explained in her autobiography ‘Traslocando’ that Borg had “a monstrous dependence on cocaine. He let McEnroe win Wimbledon in 1981 because of coke”.

Borg was very lost in the brothels he frequented. I hadn’t seen him for two days and when he turned up I threw a sofa, silver plates and all the trophies he had won in his tournaments out of the window. I hit him with racquets and when his frightened mother intervened, I gave him the rest, telling him: ‘I married you because you had to be the father of my children’. Borg spluttered in confusion, while the mother told me that he would only have had children of pure Swedish blood. I threw another couple of medals over the balcony and left for good,” the 53-year-old singer recalled.

“I left him too late, in 1992, I should have done it earlier. With Borg I lost my feelings and the money in the bank. I always paid, because multimillionaires never have money in their pockets,” she said in her book
