Jonathan Davenport Reveals His 2025 Racing Plans, Commits to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in Pursuit of Another National Championship
Dirt late model superstar Jonathan Davenport has officially revealed his 2025 racing plans, confirming that he will return full-time to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) in pursuit of another national title. The announcement, which came Tuesday during a media session at Eldora Speedway, ends months of speculation about which tour the multi-time champion would commit to for the upcoming season.
Known to fans as “Superman” for his dominant performances on the dirt, Davenport shared that his decision to follow the Lucas Oil tour again in 2025 was rooted in consistency, competition, and a desire to continue building on his storied legacy.
“We looked at everything — from schedules to payouts to the direction each tour is heading,” Davenport said. “The Lucas Oil series has always felt like home. The competition is as tough as it gets, and I want to stack up against the best night in and night out.”
Davenport, who has claimed multiple LOLMDS titles in his career, will once again pilot the familiar No. 49 Longhorn Chassis for Double L Motorsports, with continued support from longtime sponsors including Nutrien Ag Solutions and Durham Racing Engines. Team owner Lance Landers issued a statement saying the group is “excited to go all-in for another championship run with JD behind the wheel.”
The 2025 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series schedule features over 50 events across more than 20 states, including marquee stops at tracks like Brownstown, Port Royal, and of course, Eldora. The championship purse and increased bonus incentives are believed to have played a key role in Davenport’s decision.
Davenport’s 2024 campaign saw him split time between tours and crown jewel events, winning several major races but falling just short of a full-season championship run. Now, with renewed focus and a full tour commitment, fans and analysts alike expect Davenport to be a major threat for the LOLMDS title from the opening green flag.
“Winning races is always the goal,” Davenport added, “but running for a championship — that’s where the heart of this sport is. I’m fired up and ready to chase it.”
