In a Groundbreaking Tribute to Rock History, Netflix Announces the Release of a New Feature-Length Documentary on Led Zeppelin, Promising Unseen Footage, Rare Interviews, and an Intimate Look into the Rise and Reign of the Legendary Band That Changed Music Forever
Netflix is turning up the volume on music history with the announcement of a brand-new feature-length documentary chronicling the epic journey of Led Zeppelin, the iconic British rock band that reshaped the landscape of music in the 1970s. Titled Led Zeppelin: Hammer of the Gods, the documentary will premiere globally on Netflix this fall.
The streaming giant promises fans an immersive, never-before-seen look into the lives of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and the late John Bonham. The film combines restored archival footage, exclusive backstage reels, and in-depth interviews with the band members themselves, as well as commentary from fellow musicians, critics, and industry insiders.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alison Ellwood — known for her work on History of the Eagles — the documentary aims to go beyond the usual tales of rock ‘n’ roll excess and dive into the heart of what made Led Zeppelin a cultural phenomenon. It will chronicle their early formation, their record-breaking tours, the creation of timeless tracks like “Stairway to Heaven” and “Kashmir,” and the eventual impact of Bonham’s tragic death.
Netflix says the documentary has been several years in the making, made possible through unprecedented cooperation from surviving band members and their estates. The platform also secured rights to over 50 remastered Zeppelin tracks, which will serve as the soundtrack to the film.
“This is the Led Zeppelin story told like never before,” Ellwood said in a statement. “It’s not just about the music; it’s about the bond between these four men and how they created something larger than life.”
Fan anticipation is sky-high, with music communities buzzing across social media. Early previews suggest the documentary will reveal candid moments and emotional reflections that humanize the legendary group, offering new perspectives even for die-hard followers.
Led Zeppelin: Hammer of the Gods is scheduled to debut on Netflix on November 15, with a special limited theatrical release planned in select cities worldwide.
