Netflix is revving up excitement in the motorsports world with the upcoming launch of a highly anticipated documentary centered on Jonathan Davenport, the reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion and one of the most dominant forces in dirt track racing history.
Titled “Superman: The Jonathan Davenport Story”, the documentary delves deep into the life, legacy, and relentless drive of the man nicknamed “Superman” for his incredible feats on the track. With exclusive interviews, raw race footage, and never-before-seen personal moments, the film aims to capture the spirit of a true dirt racing icon.
Set to premiere next month, the documentary spans Davenport’s journey from his early days racing on local tracks in Blairsville, Georgia, to his rise as a household name in the dirt late model world. Fans will get a unique glimpse into the challenges he faced both on and off the track, including mechanical failures, fierce rivalries, and the emotional toll of chasing perfection in one of motorsports’ most unforgiving disciplines.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Troy Sanders, the documentary promises high-octane storytelling with emotional depth. “This is not just a story about a driver winning races,” Sanders said. “It’s about resilience, community, and a man who never stopped believing in his dream, even when the odds were stacked against him.”
The Netflix special also explores the technical side of the sport, including the grueling demands placed on drivers and crews, the intense preparation before each race.
