Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh Discusses Brother Jim’s Prospects in the NFL

The Michigan Wolverines capped off their first national title since 1997 with a 34-13 manhandling of the Washington Huskies back on Jan. 8. Much of the credit for that win goes to Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, who served two separate three-game suspensions during the season for recruiting violations. A lot of speculation swirled after that game that Harbaugh might return to the NFL, where he previously coached the 49ers from 2011-2014. But that’s not necessarily true. John is apparently just as in the dark as the rest of us. “I don’t know what he’s going to do. I’m not sure what Jim’s plans are,” Harbaugh said. “Whatever he does will be what’s best for his family. “I know Michigan’s been a joy for him to go back to his alma mater. His family loves it there, the players love him, the coaches, the fanbase. I would think the president and the board of trustees would be doing everything they can to try and keep them. That would be priority No. 1 if I was them.

He loves Michigan, but the NFL — he loves the NFL too, so we’ll have to see.” Jim has interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons. It sure would be nice to see Jim and John on opposing sidelines again in the NFL.

NFL insider reveals the likelihood of Jim Harbaugh leaving Michigan Wolverines in 2024, basically a ‘done deal’

Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh has been fielding interest and interview requests from NFL teams since winning the national championship. Fresh off taking Michigan to the top of the college football world, the Wolverines’ athletic department is in a fight to keep its head coach.

Harbaugh has been one of the top head-coaching candidates for NFL teams in the last three years. He interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and Denver Broncos in 2023, each time turning the interest into contract extensions at Michigan

Already one of the highest-paid college football coaches, the leader of Michigan’s football program is again entertaining interest from NFL teams. With clubs willing to offer him anywhere from $15 to $20 million per season, the University of Michigan has been pulled into a bidding war. Despite their confidence in retaining Harbaugh, it seems everyone outside of Ann Arbor is betting against Michigan.

Appearing on the latest Yahoo Sports’ Inside Coverage podcast, NFL insiders Charles Robinson and Jori Epstein shared insight into Harbaugh’s situation. Specifically, Robinson shared his informed belief that the odds of Harbaugh returning to the Wolverines in 2024 are hovering around 25 percent.
