‘Can’t Wait to Not Touch a Basketball For a While’ Caitlin Clark Rejoice as She Took a Quick Break From Basketball

Caitlin Clark ‘Can’t Wait to Not Touch a Basketball For a While’

Caitlin Clark is eager to get away from the basketball court.

Given her schedule since her final season as an Iowa Hawkeye, it’s difficult to blame her for wanting to put down her basketball for a bit. Since September of 2023, she has devoted almost all of her attention to becoming a highly skilled basketball player.

The Past 10 Months of Caitlin
Caitlin played the most games in women’s collegiate basketball last season—two—while also helping the Iowa women’s basketball team win back-to-back championships. After Caitlin’s final season as an Iowa Hawkeye finished in April 2024, she immediately entered the WNBA draft.

Despite the fact that she was always going to be the first overall choice, she continued to train for teams and maintain her physical condition in preparation for her WNBA debut. May of 2024 saw the start of the Indiana Fever season, just one month following Caitlin’s undergraduate career’s conclusion.

Caitlin’s life has revolved around basketball for the last ten months. She’s finished with the WNBA All-Star weekend and is ready for some downtime. Caitlin said the media farewell to her All-Star post-game interview by saying, “have a nice month.”

With the Summer Olympic games beginning in Paris, Caitlin will enjoy about 1 month off from the game of basketball. There were no mentions of any vacation plans but she did seem eager for her vacation to begin.

According to the IndyStar, Caitlin laughed when asked about her break.

“I honestly can’t wait to not touch a basketball for a while. I’ve shot too many times in the past year. I think it’s hard as a professional athlete at times, like people do always realize I feel like an individual just like all of you. I’m just the same human. I go about my same daily life, I do all the things that you do, I just play basketball on top of that .”

Her coach, Christie Sides, also mentioned she was happy Caitlin would get a bit of a breather from basketball.

“I’m loving that she’s going to get a breather and get some rest, just for our push after this Olympic break. I think it’s great for her, she’s just been going so hard for quite some time now, and this is just going to help her so much just to kind of decompress.”

While Caitlin does have a dream job, there’s no doubt she’s been extremely busy both mentally and physically for the past year. Not only was she the face of college basketball, she’s had to transition that into being the most popular player in the WNBA.

We may never know if deep down she was disappointed in not being asked to join the Olympic team because she’s said all of the right things since the news came out she wasn’t going to be on the team, but I have a feeling that in the long run, she’ll be glad for some time off. She won’t have to play or answer questions from reporters for a month.

No matter what your job is, even professional athletes need time to recharge their batteries. I wonder if Caitlin will be making any appearances in Iowa during her time off?!
